Senior Accountant - Finance Department

About the role

Maseno University is hiring a Senior Accountant (Grade Thirteen) for its Finance Department in Kisumu. The post covers oversight of the university's financial operations, debt management, internal controls and supervision of junior accounting staff.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and track university debts to keep them at optimum levels.
• Formulate, monitor and review internal control systems, such as proper document keeping, to ensure smooth operations.
• Oversee financial operations so that accounting tasks follow accounting standards and university policy.
• Coordinate with external stakeholders such as the Higher Education Loans Board, banks, and internal and external debtors.
• Supervise accountants, assistant accountants, accounts assistants and clerks, ensuring work is done correctly and on time.
• Conduct annual staff evaluations to identify weaknesses, training needs and grounds for reward.
• Review and sign off monthly bank reconciliations and monthly accounting schedules supporting the final accounts.
• Compile and review monthly financial statements for management.
• Oversee monthly payroll reconciliations and authorisation for accuracy and completeness.
• Take part in university budget making, implementation and monitoring.
