Senior Mechanic – Workshop Leader

About the role

Takataka Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanic to lead its workshop in Westlands, Nairobi. You will be responsible for ensuring high equipment uptime, mentoring a team of mechanics, and coordinating maintenance activities for a fleet that includes trucks, wheel loaders, forklifts, and company vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor mechanics, optimizing labor utilization and establishing best practices.
• Maintain 85%+ equipment uptime through regular diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
• Develop daily and weekly maintenance schedules for the entire fleet.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and vehicle tracking records.
• Coordinate parts procurement with the purchasing team to ensure timely availability.
• Ensure compliance with governmental standards such as NTSA and schedule mandatory inspections.
• Provide preventive advice to drivers and logistics staff to extend equipment life.
• Contribute to workshop budgeting and quarterly financial planning.
• Act as interim logistics leader in the absence of the Logistics HOD.

Required profile

• Degree, diploma or vocational training in Automotive Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Workshop Supervisor or Senior Mechanic.
• Valid driving licence.
• Proven ability to manage a team and drive performance improvements.
