Senior Scientist – Macroeconomics

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) seeks a Senior Scientist in Macroeconomics to provide scientific leadership for research on forest governance and natural resource management. The role involves guiding research design, supervising publications, and building capacity across multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and CIFOR partners to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and manage research activities and budgets.
• Coordinate donor reporting and contribute to proposal development.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, social sciences, natural resource management).
• Proven experience in collaborative natural‑resource or social‑science research, including multi‑country projects.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated success in budget management and resource mobilization.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Experience working with multiple partners and in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
