About the role
The Social & Behavior Change Specialist will join UNICEF’s Global Programme Division, supporting the WASH Centre of Excellence in Nairobi. The role focuses on strengthening risk communication, community engagement and accountability to affected populations during public health emergencies.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to Country Offices and partners on risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP).
- Develop and share knowledge products, tools and best practices for emergency preparedness and response.
- Facilitate capacity‑building activities and trainings for national and regional stakeholders.
- Collaborate with governments, NGOs and other partners to design and implement innovative RCCE and AAP approaches.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of behavior‑change interventions in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) contexts.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in public health, social sciences, WASH, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in behavior change, risk communication or community engagement, preferably in humanitarian or emergency settings.
- Demonstrated experience working with UN agencies, governments or NGOs on large‑scale health programmes.
Required skills
- Knowledge of risk communication and community engagement methodologies.
- Familiarity with accountability mechanisms for affected populations.
- Experience in developing training materials and facilitating capacity‑building workshops.
