Technical Director – Civil Engineering

About the role

The Technical Director will lead the technical and project delivery functions of a fast‑growing civil engineering and construction contractor focused on government infrastructure and high‑rise buildings in Kenya. Reporting to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Committee, the role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on management of multiple concurrent projects.

Key responsibilities

• Direct technical delivery of civil engineering and high‑rise building projects across the portfolio.
• Oversee project planning, scheduling, and execution to ensure timely delivery.
• Mentor and manage Project Managers and senior engineering teams.
• Administer contracts under JBC frameworks and ensure compliance with Kenyan public procurement regulations.
• Control project financial performance, including cash‑flow monitoring and cost optimisation.
• Drive value‑engineering initiatives to improve project economics.
• Strengthen governance, procurement cycles, and execution controls.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of experience in civil engineering or construction project delivery.
• Proven ability to manage multiple large‑scale construction projects simultaneously.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and Project Managers.
• Strong knowledge of JBC contracts and Kenyan public procurement processes.
• Commercial acumen in construction cash‑flow, procurement cycles, and cost management.
• Experience in government contracting environments is highly preferred.
