Technical Lead Operator - Recycling Machinery

About the role

TakaTaka Solutions is hiring a Technical Lead Operator in Westlands, Nairobi. The role combines operating and supervising recycling machinery with leading a team of assistant operators, planning production and keeping accurate records of equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and oversee recycling machinery such as balers, shredders, conveyors and sorting equipment, monitoring performance and intervening promptly on malfunctions.
• Carry out routine inspections, implement quality control measures and inspect incoming materials and outgoing products against standards.
• Supervise and, where the schedule allows, carry out regular preventative maintenance; troubleshoot faults and coordinate repairs.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
• Lead, train and supervise assistant operators, motivate the team and help achieve production goals.
• Work with the Recycling Plant Manager and Supervisor on production schedules, adjust them to changing priorities, and analyse and improve existing processes.
• Implement process control systems and work with the engineering team on new equipment design and installation.
• Use data for decision-making and reporting, and report production metrics, equipment status and issues to the relevant parties.
• Promote workplace safety: keep the area clean, hold regular safety meetings and training, investigate accidents and incidents and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience as a machine operator in a recycling or similar industrial setting.
• Experience operating an industrial production machine with at least three process steps requiring control of parameters such as temperature, pressure and speed.
