Transport Lead – Other Contracts

About the role

The Transport Lead – Other Contracts is responsible for overseeing daily transport operations, ensuring safe, compliant and cost‑effective movement of goods. You will lead transport teams, manage fleet performance and drive continuous improvement to enhance safety, productivity and service quality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily transport activities to meet customer and business requirements.
• Monitor fleet utilisation, optimise vehicle routing, load planning and vehicle allocation.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Track shipments and vehicles in real time using transportation management systems and tracking tools.
• Ensure on‑time collection and delivery of shipments and resolve operational issues promptly.
• Supervise transport controllers, planners, drivers and support staff, conducting briefings and performance reviews.
• Develop employee capability through coaching, mentoring and training.
• Promote a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with transport legislation and company policies.
• Oversee vehicle availability, maintenance, compliance and manage transport‑related supplier performance.
• Monitor transport costs and identify cost‑saving and productivity opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing transport operations, including fleet utilisation and driver supervision.
• Strong leadership and people‑development skills.
• Excellent problem‑solving ability and capacity to handle unexpected challenges.
• Good communication skills for stakeholder management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with transportation management systems and real‑time tracking tools.
• Knowledge of transport legislation, road safety regulations and vehicle compliance.
• Ability to analyse transport costs and implement productivity improvements.
