WASH Assistant – Tana River (Kenya)

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering high‑quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes in the Tana River region, including emergency response, construction of facilities and hygiene promotion.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction and rehabilitation of WASH infrastructure such as boreholes, tanks, reticulation systems and animal troughs.
• Organise and lead community meetings with contractors and local representatives to gather feedback and ensure participation.
• Plan and implement hygiene promotion activities and distribute WASH non‑food items (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs).
• Maintain project documentation, capture success stories and produce regular progress reports.
• Validate contractor work quality, coordinate payments with logistics and ensure site safety.
• Integrate WASH activities with nutrition, health, education and child‑protection programmes, applying gender and disability considerations.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum 2 years experience in WASH infrastructure construction within humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven project‑management experience delivering integrated health‑WASH interventions on time and within budget.
• Strong commitment to community participation, child safeguarding and cross‑cutting issues (gender, environment, HIV).
