Accountant – Embu

About the role

Green Earth is seeking a meticulous Accountant to manage financial transactions for its operations in Embu and the Westlands area. You will ensure accurate recording, reporting, and compliance of all funds while supporting the organization’s environmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Record and safeguard all incoming funds on the day they are received.
• Review and approve payment requests against approved budgets, ensuring complete invoices and supporting documentation.
• Oversee income, receipts, disbursements, payments, and financial reporting functions to maintain traceable transactions.
• Maintain audit‑ready financial records with zero missing invoices or unreconciled transactions.
• Compile and submit monthly financial reports to the Country Director and Holding Finance on time.
• Identify and resolve missing documentation or discrepancies before month‑end close.
• Escalate payment requests that exceed thresholds or show signs of irregularity.
• Respond to financial queries from division heads, auditors, and Holding Finance.

Required profile

• A degree or professional qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Solid experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting, preferably within an operational, field‑based, or nonprofit/social‑impact organization in Kenya or East Africa.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with budgets, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Good judgment to approve, hold, or escalate payments confidently.
• Clear communication skills for explaining financial status to non‑finance colleagues.
• Integrity and discretion handling sensitive financial data and audit trails.
• Familiarity with Kenyan financial regulations, tax requirements, and banking practices.
