Accountant – Fixed Assets

About the role

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage its fixed assets portfolio. The role involves maintaining accurate asset records, overseeing depreciation, and supporting capital budgeting across the Institute’s regional offices. The position is based in Nairobi, Westlands and reports to the Finance Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile the consolidated fixed‑assets ledger monthly and ensure compliance with the Asset Policy.
• Maintain detailed asset registers by location, custodian, cost and net book value.
• Coordinate annual physical verification of assets and update the register after disposals or transfers.
• Calculate monthly depreciation, prepare journal entries and post CAPEX transactions.
• Oversee inventory sub‑ledger reconciliation, organize quarterly and annual stock‑takes, and verify fuel inventories.
• Monitor capital expenditures against budget, review payment requests and ensure timely asset capitalization.
• Manage general insurance schedules, claims and liaise with underwriters.
• Ensure proper filing of all documentation in both physical and electronic formats.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification – CPA (Kenya) or ACCA.
• Minimum five years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in fixed‑assets management.
• Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems and ERP platforms.
