Assistant General Manager – Debt Recovery

About the role

The Assistant General Manager – Debt Recovery will lead the design and execution of strategies to recover non‑performing assets for I&M Bank. This senior position works across all customer segments to minimise losses and protect the bank’s credit portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective debt recovery strategies for non‑performing assets across all customer segments.
• Lead recovery, restructuring, rehabilitation and resolution of distressed credit facilities to maximise recoveries.
• Oversee enforcement actions, loan workouts, foreclosures, receiverships, asset disposals and other recovery initiatives.
• Monitor NPA portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions to arrest adverse trends.
• Review delinquent and classified accounts and provide recommendations for recovery actions.
• Assess impairment provisions and write‑off recommendations in line with CBK Prudential Guidelines, IFRS and internal policies.
• Perform detailed financial and cash‑flow analyses of distressed borrowers for the Credit Risk Management Committee and Board Credit Committee.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory directives, drive risk‑control self‑assessments and coordinate audit responses.
• Engage with customers, legal representatives, administrators, receivers, liquidators and other stakeholders to negotiate recovery solutions.
• Represent the bank in legal proceedings and provide witness testimony when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing debt recovery, restructuring and rehabilitation of distressed credit facilities.
• Strong knowledge of credit risk management, provisioning standards and regulatory compliance (CBK, IFRS).
• Demonstrated ability to analyse financial statements and cash‑flow models of distressed borrowers.
• Experience coordinating with legal, finance, credit and operations teams in a banking environment.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including interaction with regulators, insolvency practitioners and customers.
