Assistant Manager, Health Underwriting

About the role

The Assistant Manager, Health Underwriting will lead the health insurance underwriting portfolio, ensuring sound risk selection, pricing discipline, and portfolio quality. You will work within delegated authority limits to meet loss‑ratio targets while supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Execute underwriting activities for health insurance risks, making accept, decline, or modify decisions within delegated authority.
• Determine appropriate pricing, terms, and conditions based on risk exposure while balancing competitiveness and underwriting discipline.
• Maintain compliance with underwriting standards, credit policy, and delegated authority matrix.
• Monitor assigned risks, follow up on risk‑survey recommendations, and drive continuous portfolio improvement.
• Collaborate with business development, claims, and other internal teams to support acquisition, retention, and resolution of underwriting matters.
• Track and analyse underwriting performance trends, escalating emerging risks and supporting corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure proper documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to process improvements, faster turnaround times, and higher service standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related insurance field.
• Professional insurance qualification (ACII or IIK) preferred.
• 6‑8 years of health underwriting experience, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
• Strong analytical and reporting abilities with a keen eye for innovation in insurance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data‑visualisation tools such as Power BI.
• Experience using Tableau or similar visualization platforms.
