Assistant Underwriter – Group Life

About the role

The Assistant Underwriter will support the acquisition and onboarding of Group Life business, preparing quotations, analysing risk information and applying approved pricing and underwriting guidelines. The role also assists with reinsurance requirements, KYC/AML compliance and smooth onboarding of new business.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate Group Life quotations for sales teams, intermediaries and direct clients using approved pricing models and underwriting guidelines.
• Review member data, benefits and claims experience to determine appropriate pricing and quotation terms.
• Coordinate new‑business onboarding, including reviewing proposal documents, member schedules and premiums.
• Conduct KYC/AML screening for new schemes and intermediaries, escalating exceptions and ensuring compliance clearance.
• Maintain complete new‑business files on the approved platform and generate reports on quotation turnaround, conversion and new‑business trends.

Required profile

• Degree in Actuarial Science, BCom Insurance, Statistics or related field.
• Progress in a Diploma in Insurance (ACII/AIIK) and at least 4 years of relevant experience handling Group Life schemes.
• Basic knowledge of IRA regulations and strong analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications.
• Basic automation knowledge and interest in emerging technologies such as AI and ML.
