Associate Director, Private Equity (Lead for Sub Saharan Africa region)

About the role

The Associate Director will lead EBRD’s private equity activities across Sub‑Saharan Africa, establishing a regional hub and managing the full investment lifecycle from origination to exit. The role includes responsibility for the overall performance of the SSA equity portfolio and may also cover North‑Africa investments.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the equity investment strategy for SSA in collaboration with sector and country teams.
• Generate, screen and originate investment opportunities, ensuring they meet EBRD’s criteria.
• Lead structuring, negotiation and execution of complex equity, quasi‑equity and listed transactions.
• Manage multi‑disciplinary project teams, overseeing due‑diligence, legal documentation and post‑investment monitoring.
• Maintain and expand relationships with counterparties, advisors, co‑investors and portfolio companies.
• Report on portfolio performance and ensure compliance with the Bank’s ethical standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in private equity or investment banking, preferably with a focus on emerging markets.
• Proven track record of originating, executing and exiting equity investments.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross‑functional teams.
• Excellent understanding of financial structuring, valuation and deal negotiation.
• Ability to work independently and travel within the region as required.
