Automotive Fabrication Technician

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Automotive Fabrication Technician to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves restoring vehicles that have been in accidents to a like‑new condition, working closely with body and paint technicians, and assisting in damage estimation.

Key responsibilities

• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble accident‑damaged vehicles.
• Fabricate body parts and brackets from aluminum and steel sheet.
• Collaborate with body/paint technicians to achieve a like‑new finish.
• Assist management in estimating damages and preparing accident quotes.
• Maintain safety standards and adhere to contract medical and credential requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in welding/fabrication or automotive/truck repair.
• Valid passport (at least one year remaining) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to work under limited supervision in an austere OCONUS environment.
• Physical ability to perform demanding manual tasks and lift up to 45 lb.

Required skills

• Proficient in aluminum and steel sheet welding.
• Experience operating plasma cutters and acetylene/oxygen torches.
• Knowledge of welding procedures for various aluminum and steel alloys.
• Ability to fabricate parts from flat sheeting and minimize material waste.
• Limited electrical knowledge for vehicle systems.
