Carbon Finance Senior Officer

About the role

The Carbon Finance Senior Officer will lead GGGI's efforts to operationalise Kenya’s carbon market framework under the Article 6 Readiness Facility. Based in Nairobi, the role supports the Carbon Transaction Facility’s ambition to mobilise up to USD 500 million for ITMO purchases by 2030.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the design and implementation of Kenya’s Carbon Market Framework and related regulatory instruments.
• Strengthen institutional and technical capacities of government agencies to participate in international carbon markets.
• Develop and manage a pipeline of mitigation activities eligible for international carbon trading.
• Provide policy advisory, technical assistance and investment mobilisation to public and private stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on the performance of the Article 6 Readiness Facility and the Carbon Transaction Facility.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in carbon finance, climate finance or international carbon markets.
• Proven track record working with government ministries, development partners and private sector actors.
• Strong analytical, project management and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Familiarity with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and ITMO mechanisms.
