Carbon Project Manager - Kenya

About the role

Burn is seeking a Carbon Project Manager to lead multiple carbon‑offset projects in Kenya. The role involves overseeing the full project lifecycle, from planning and budgeting to field data collection and certification.

Key responsibilities

• Manage at least four concurrent high‑frequency projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
• Develop project plans, schedules, risk registers and financial forecasts.
• Coordinate field‑level stakeholders such as enumerators, vendors, local authorities and community representatives.
• Collaborate with Burn’s Kenya country team, the Carbon Technical Team and other internal groups to deliver project inputs on schedule.
• Lead MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) activities, including monitoring surveys, KPT/WBT coordination and verifier engagement.
• Maintain compliance with carbon standards (Verra/VCS, Gold Standard) and Article 6.2 bilateral programmes.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of project management experience, preferably in field‑operations or programme delivery.
• Right to live and work in Kenya.
• PMP or PRINCE2 certification or equivalent.
• University degree in environmental science, development, engineering, project management or a related field.
• Prior experience working in Kenya or East‑African rural settings.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Smartsheet and Excel for planning and reporting.
• Experience using project‑management and reporting tools.
• Knowledge of carbon project lifecycles and certification processes.
• Familiarity with Verra/VCS and Gold Standard standards.
