About the role
The Career Development Officer will support Médecins Sans Frontières in Nairobi by building talent pipelines and delivering career development programmes for staff across the organisation. The role focuses on enhancing staff mobility, retention and professional growth within the humanitarian health sector.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain talent pipelines for operational and leadership positions, ensuring a ready pool of qualified staff.
- Implement career development frameworks, competency pathways and growth tools for staff across the MSF movement.
- Conduct talent reviews, monitor career progression indicators and intervene to support employee growth and mobility.
- Provide career coaching and guidance, facilitating informed career decisions and long‑term development planning.
- Partner with Learning and Capability Development teams to identify capability gaps and deliver targeted learning interventions.
- Use performance and potential assessments to recommend development opportunities and readiness for advancement.
- Promote equitable career development and diverse representation in leadership and specialist pipelines.
- Analyse workforce and career development data, generate insights and advise strategic HR decisions using HRIS systems.
- Facilitate internal mobility and developmental assignments across MSF entities to broaden competencies.
- Develop career development initiatives for Country‑Based Staff, supporting succession planning and workforce capability.
- Contribute to HR process improvements and integrate EDI and safeguarding considerations into career development activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Studies, Psychology, Humanities or equivalent.
- 2–3 years of experience in placement, career development or related HR functions.
- Experience in humanitarian NGOs such as MSF is an advantage.
- Fluency in English; French is a plus.
- Knowledge of career development and staff development concepts.
