About the role

Join Sawari Hospitality Solutions as a Casual Commis Chef in Nairobi, supporting the kitchen team in delivering high‑quality dishes for upscale hotel and fine‑dining service. You will work under senior chefs, gaining hands‑on experience in food preparation, inventory handling, and kitchen sanitation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing high‑quality dishes following recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.
• Receive, inspect, and store ingredients to ensure freshness and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Develop cooking techniques and operate various kitchen equipment to improve culinary proficiency.
• Collaborate with kitchen sections, manage designated stations, and ensure smooth workflow during service.
• Maintain food quality, taste, and presentation by strictly following recipes and cooking methods.
• Adhere to hygiene and sanitation practices, including regular handwashing and proper protective gear.
• Support menu development activities and participate in tastings and training sessions.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Commis Chef in an upscale hotel or fine‑dining restaurant (preferred).
• Culinary degree, diploma, or equivalent training.
• Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation practices.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 kg.
• Capability to work efficiently in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
