Chinese Translator (Mandarin) – Construction Sector

About the role

The company is seeking a Mandarin‑English translator to support its construction projects in Nairobi. The role involves bridging communication gaps between Chinese expatriates, local staff, consultants and contractors on site.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate verbal interpretation and written translation between Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Translate architectural drawings, specifications, reports, contracts, correspondence and other technical documents.
• Facilitate communication during site meetings, project discussions and inspections.
• Assist project teams in coordinating construction and architectural activities.
• Accompany company representatives to meetings, project sites and other assignments as required.
• Drive company vehicles when assigned, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and company policies.

Required profile

• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English, both spoken and written.
• Diploma or degree in Chinese Language, Translation, Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of translation and interpretation experience, preferably in the architecture, engineering or construction sector.
• Valid driving licence with a good driving record.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and technical documents.

Required skills

• Strong written and oral translation skills between Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Valid driving licence.
