Claims Handler

About the role

The Claims Handler will manage insurance claims from initial notification through to settlement, ensuring accurate assessment, fraud detection and high customer satisfaction. Working with an in‑house team and external surveyors, you will play a key role in shaping the customer experience during stressful events.

Key responsibilities

• Manage claim files from notification to closure, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Coordinate and oversee joint surveys, site visits and damage investigations.
• Lead, train and mentor cargo surveyors, maintaining performance standards.
• Interpret policy wording and maritime law to determine coverage and liability.
• Negotiate recoveries with third parties and document salvage activities.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve claims handling efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Prepare and deliver reports to clients in accordance with corporate quality standards.
• Contribute to business objectives and identify growth opportunities.

Required profile

• Degree in a technical field (Engineering, Logistics, Insurance, Marine Cargo Inspection or related).
• Minimum three years progressive experience in claims handling, engineering, logistics or marine cargo inspection.
• Strong analytical and investigative mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Effective time management, negotiation and persuasive abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of maritime law and insurance policy interpretation.
• Experience conducting cargo surveys and damage assessments.
