Communications Intern – CITES MIKE Program

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communications Intern to support the CITES MIKE Programme in Nairobi. The role involves creating and managing content that promotes biodiversity initiatives and aligns with CITES communication guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Draft social media posts highlighting CITES MIKE’s work and global biodiversity topics.
• Edit and produce photo and video content for outreach.
• Design outreach and capacity‑building materials such as factsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and branded templates.
• Organise and maintain the programme’s multimedia asset library.
• Assist in communication planning and implementation for campaigns, capacity‑building activities, and key meetings.
• Monitor social media and website performance and compile regular communications reports.
• Maintain tracking lists, calendars, and documentation related to CITES MIKE activities.
• Support other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or in a graduate programme (Master’s/PhD), or recently graduated.
• Academic background in communications, graphic design, social media, web development/management, or related fields.
• Certification in graphic‑design software applications.
• No professional work experience required.
