Communications & Knowledge Management Internship

About the role

This internship supports the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Ecosystems Division, specifically the Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit, in delivering communications and knowledge‑management activities for the Global Peatlands Initiative (Phase II). The role is office‑based in Nairobi and offers hands‑on experience in environmental communication and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update the Global Peatlands Initiative knowledge‑management tracker, fact sheets and resource libraries.
• Draft and publish content for UNEP’s peatlands web pages, the GPI website, partner hubs, and social‑media channels.
• Write news articles or blog posts on peatland restoration, ecosystem services, carbon finance, biodiversity and climate change.
• Assist in preparing materials for GPI Steering Committee meetings and other partnership meetings, including agendas, minutes and follow‑up communications.
• Organise ad‑hoc workshops, teleconferences and virtual meetings, providing logistical support as needed.
• Serve as a communication liaison within the GPI partnership and with external stakeholders.
• Undertake additional tasks aligned with the intern’s interests and experience.

Required profile

• Strong interest in environmental issues, particularly peatland conservation and biodiversity.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an office environment and support virtual meetings.
