Cost Controller

About the role

The Cost Controller will support Gem Forest MGallery Hotel Collection in Nairobi by overseeing cost control processes across food, beverage, and general stores. The role ensures accurate cost reporting, inventory management, and compliance with budgeting objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement cost‑control objectives and maintain auditing systems for Materials Management.
• Audit daily receiving variance reports, inventory transactions, and recipe accuracy for outlets and kitchens.
• Prepare daily and monthly cost summaries for Accounting and Control departments.
• Supply department heads with cost figures for profit‑center operations and produce comparison reports of actual vs. potential costs.
• Reconcile officer and entertainment checks, adjust inventory variations, and authorise inventory adjustments for Finance Director approval.
• Conduct market surveys, spot‑check purchase orders, and investigate spoilage causes.
• Maintain organized records of cost audits, operating equipment, FF&E, and non‑system tracked inventory (banquets, buffets).
• Monitor data entry by operational staff, correct Materials Management inputs, and ensure compliance with accounting principles.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Progress towards CPA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification.
• 2–4 years of cost‑control experience in a hotel environment.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with hotel POS systems.
• Familiarity with Property Management Systems (PMS).
• Knowledge of accounting software used in hospitality.
