Data Science & Software Engineering Expert (Consultant)

About the role

Sustainet Group Limited is seeking a senior consultant to lead the design and implementation of a data‑wallet platform for agricultural smallholders. The role combines data science, software engineering, and development‑cooperation expertise to deliver a low‑connectivity, privacy‑preserving solution.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical requirements, data models and interoperability specifications aligned with value‑chain needs.
• Design system architecture, build a prototype mobile/web application (offline‑first, low‑bandwidth) and implement identity, consent, encryption and key‑management modules.
• Develop APIs, ETL pipelines, data‑quality checks and traceability features such as geo‑tags, timestamps and photo evidence.
• Lead testing, DevOps, open‑source repository management and deployment of the prototype in pilot sites.
• Provide technical hand‑over documentation, runbooks and training for local IT teams.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in data engineering or data science for development applications.
• Proven experience building data platforms, working with APIs and interoperability standards.
• Background in development cooperation projects delivering digital public goods.
• Experience with smallholder or agricultural MSME contexts in Latin America, Africa or Asia.
