Deposit Mobilization Relationship Manager

About the role

The Deposit Mobilization Relationship Manager will lead the strategy to grow Umba’s deposit base across Kenya and Nigeria. Reporting to senior leadership, you will oversee a team that drives deposit acquisition, manages strategic partnerships, and ensures liquidity targets are met.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain deposit customers across multiple segments.
• Monitor and manage the bank’s deposit portfolio to ensure diversification, cost‑effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with product teams to design, launch and improve liability products such as savings, fixed‑deposit and current accounts.
• Provide market intelligence, competitor analysis and customer feedback to inform product pricing and development.
• Support the Treasury function in managing cost of funds and daily liquidity requirements.
• Identify, initiate and manage affiliations with corporate clients and other institutions, negotiating partnership agreements that generate deposit inflows.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners to create mutual value and drive customer acquisition.
• Lead, coach and develop the deposit mobilization team, ensuring continuous staff growth and alignment with organisational goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience in liabilities management, deposit mobilization or related banking functions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage strategic partnerships and negotiate agreements.
• Strong leadership skills with experience overseeing a team.
• Excellent analytical mindset with ability to track market trends and translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Solid understanding of regulatory and risk management requirements in the banking sector.
