Director, Human Resource and Administration

About the role

The Director of Human Resource and Administration will provide strategic leadership and policy direction for the HR, administration, and hospitality functions of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital. Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior role drives integrated people‑management strategies that support operational excellence and the hospital’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive HR, administration and hospitality policies aligned with good governance and organizational effectiveness.
• Lead talent acquisition, performance management, learning and development, and employee relations across the hospital.
• Oversee administrative services, facilities management, and hospitality operations to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on workforce planning, succession, and change management.
• Ensure compliance with Kenyan labour law, the Constitution, and professional HR standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related discipline; a Master’s degree in HRM is preferred.
• Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP‑K) or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institute of Human Resource Management.
• Registration and a valid practising licence with the Institute of Human Resource Management.
• At least 15 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years in senior management.
• Completion of a recognised leadership course of at least four weeks.
• Proficiency in computer applications and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
