Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

The client, a leading renewable energy consulting firm, is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their Nairobi office. The role involves designing inverter stations, MV transformer and switching stations, and utility metering systems for utility‑scale solar projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer inverter stations, MV transformer stations, MV switching stations, and utility metering systems.
• Create detailed CAD layouts for cable trays, trenches, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection, including cable sizing and routing.
• Prepare single‑line diagrams, schematics, and layouts for Main Control Rooms and Inverter Stations.
• Develop AutoCAD plugins and add new features to existing applications.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients while ensuring compliance with national and international codes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 1‑3 years of experience in solar PV design, substation design, or power system studies.
• Willingness to travel for site visits in Kenya and abroad.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC and IS standards.
• Experience with cable sizing calculations and underground raceway design.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
