About the role
The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire‑department vehicles and heavy equipment. This role ensures that all apparatus are safe, reliable, and ready for emergency response.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire trucks, ARFF units, ambulances, and associated heavy equipment.
- Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and conduct preventive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Remove and replace engines and major components using computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins; replace seals, bearings, axle brakes, and crane rigging.
- Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and repair air‑conditioning systems.
- Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports.
- Follow all safety policies, handle hazardous waste properly, and perform recovery operations as needed.
- Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the supervisor’s absence.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military, or tactical environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM standards and, preferably, US military vehicle specifications.
- Prefer EVT Level 1 certification for fire apparatus, ambulance, or ARFF equipment.
