Engineering Internship – Water Supply Projects

About the role

Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, is seeking an Engineering Intern to support water supply extensions in Makindu, Kenya. The intern will work under the Technical Officer and Senior Engineer, assisting with field assessments, hydraulic modelling, material estimation, and connection follow‑up while adhering to QA/QC standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field assessments for customer applications using the mWater App, capturing GPS and relevant data.
• Collaborate with the Senior Engineer to input data into hydraulic models (e.g., EPANET) to verify connection feasibility.
• Prepare material schedules and cost estimates in consultation with the engineering team.
• Coordinate with the Technical Officer to ensure satisfactory completion of water connections and update as‑built drawings.
• Assist Customer Service in activating meters after connections are completed.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (within 1 year) or final‑year student in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering.
• Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
• Willingness to travel for fieldwork across multiple sites in the region.
• Strong work ethic and ability to communicate effectively in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using drafting and modelling software such as AutoCAD, EPANET, PowerCADD, SolidWorks, and ProE.
• Ability to collect field data via smartphone applications (e.g., mWater App).
• Basic hydraulic modelling and analysis skills.
