External Examiner – School of Computing & Informatics

About the role

The School of Computing and Informatics at Mount Kenya University is seeking an External Examiner to ensure the quality and integrity of its assessment processes. The role involves moderating examination papers, reviewing marked scripts, and providing independent reports on academic standards.

Key responsibilities

• Moderate examination papers and marking schemes prior to administration.
• Review and moderate marked examination scripts, projects, dissertations, theses and other assessments.
• Evaluate academic standards of programmes and assessments against national and international benchmarks.
• Prepare independent reports on the quality and standards of academic programmes.
• Advise the University on curriculum development, assessment practices, and academic quality enhancement.
• Participate in examination boards and academic meetings when invited.
• Submit annual reports on the conduct and standards of examinations and academic programmes.

Required profile

• Earned PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution.
• At least the rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent in a recognized university or higher‑learning institution.
• Strong record of teaching, research, and academic supervision in the relevant field.
• Experience in examination moderation, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes.
• Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
• Not a current staff member of Mount Kenya University.
