Field Coordinator – Gender (Agriculture)

About the role

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is seeking a Field Coordinator focused on gender to support its livestock‑related projects in Kenya. You will work closely with local partners, government agencies, and community groups to embed gender‑responsive approaches throughout project cycles.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish and manage stakeholder relationships to achieve project outputs and outcomes.
  • Ensure timely implementation of activities, including field visits, data collection, and reporting.
  • Design and support surveys, collect sex‑disaggregated data, and oversee data cleaning, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Coordinate with local partners and community groups for planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Embed gender‑transformative approaches in livestock value‑chain interventions.
  • Build capacity of partner staff on gender‑sensitive methods.
  • Identify social, economic, or security risks to vulnerable groups and propose mitigation measures.
  • Prepare regular field activity reports and contribute to scientific publications and broader outreach materials.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, Economics or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in gender, social inclusion, or project management, preferably in agricultural or livestock contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, collecting, and analysing gender‑related data.
  • Strong understanding of gender equality principles and local barriers.
  • Proven ability to work in multicultural environments with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to rural areas and spend extended periods in the field.

Required skills

  • Analytical skills for qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Facilitation and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with ethical data collection and information management systems.
