Firefighter – Emergency Response Specialist

About the role

The Firefighter protects lives and property by conducting rescue, fire‑suppression and hazardous‑materials operations. Working in a fire station environment, the role involves rapid response to fires, vehicle accidents, floods, bomb incidents and chemical spills.

Key responsibilities

• Perform search, rescue and firefighting operations for fires, accidents, floods, bomb incidents and dangerous substance spills.
• Safely operate emergency response vehicles, hand and power tools, ladders, hoses and water‑charged hose lines.
• Operate pumps, foam generators, boom and ground‑sweep nozzles and related equipment.
• Conduct salvage and overhaul activities to minimise damage.
• Participate in station drills, emergency‑procedure training and hazardous‑materials response.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Ability to make quick, sound decisions under stressful and hazardous conditions.
• Physical fitness to perform demanding interior structural firefighting tasks.
• Effective verbal and non‑verbal communication.
• Team‑oriented work style.

Required skills

• Operation of emergency response vehicles and driver‑operator certifications (Pumper, ARFF, MWS).
• Use of hand and power tools for ventilation, ladder positioning and hose handling.
• Pump, foam generator and nozzle operation.
• Hazardous‑materials response procedures.
• Firefighter certifications (IFSAC, DOD, Pro‑Board Fire Fighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting – optional).
• Telecommunicator I & II certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
