Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

TamuPOS is building AI‑native operating systems for hospitality and retail in East Africa. As a Forward Deployed Engineer you will work directly with merchants and enterprise clients, turning on‑site observations into production‑ready features that run on real‑world devices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and ship end‑to‑end product features from discovery to production rollout.
• Collaborate with restaurant operators and merchant teams to gather requirements and validate solutions in the field.
• Test releases for edge cases, device compatibility, payment flows and intermittent connectivity.
• Drive merchant adoption through demos, sales support, and ongoing technical assistance.
• Document successful patterns, create playbooks and tooling that scale across the organization.
• Provide continuous feedback to shape the product roadmap based on field insights.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and shipping software, whether through side projects or production systems.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments and defining delivery paths independently.
• Strong understanding of product behavior under unreliable networks, shared devices and non‑technical users.
• Excellent written communication for specs, bug reports and asynchronous updates.
• Willingness to engage in sales activities, run demos and close merchant deals alongside technical work.
• Generalist mindset that moves fluidly between product thinking, engineering execution and customer interaction.
• Based in Nairobi with familiarity with Kenya’s restaurant and café landscape.

Required skills

• Claude Code or similar AI‑assisted development tools (or strong willingness to adopt).
