Front Desk Clerk

About the role

The Front Desk Clerk is the first point of contact for guests at a hotel in Des Moines, IA. This role combines customer service, administrative duties, and occasional operational tasks to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Check guests in and out using the hotel’s computer system.
• Take reservations by phone or in person.
• Operate the hotel switchboard, transfer calls, and manage wake‑up calls.
• Drive the shuttle van when needed.
• Balance the cash drawer and complete shift deposits.
• Oversee the gift shop and process related transactions.
• Maintain front‑desk files and complete required paperwork.
• Follow safety and security procedures during the shift.
• Operate laundry equipment to wash, dry, fold, and store linens.
• Deliver roll‑aways, cribs, and additional guest supplies upon request.
• Keep the lobby and work areas clean and orderly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Effective communication skills with guests and team members.
• Basic math skills, including calculations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Physical ability to sit, stand, use a telephone and computer for extended periods, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lb.
