Grants Officer

About the role

The Grants Officer will support Egerton University’s research agenda by managing the full lifecycle of grant activities. Reporting to the Director of Research and Extension, the role focuses on strengthening resource mobilisation, ensuring donor compliance, and facilitating successful proposal development.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate pre‑award and post‑award grant processes, including budgeting, reporting and compliance monitoring.
• Assist academic staff in preparing competitive grant proposals and managing donor relationships.
• Maintain accurate grant records and ensure timely submission of financial and technical reports.
• Monitor grant performance against the University’s Strategic Plan and provide regular updates to senior management.
• Stay informed on funding opportunities from national and international donors such as NRF, EU, USAID, World Bank and foundations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Project Management, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Development Studies or a related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in grants management, research administration or donor‑funded project coordination within an international organisation.
• Proven experience in proposal development and donor reporting.
• Familiarity with major research funders and ability to work independently under strict deadlines.
