Head Chef – Kitchen Operations Lead

About the role

The Head Chef will lead kitchen operations for a busy hospitality venue in Westlands, Nairobi. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality meals, managing staff, and ensuring efficient workflow in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day kitchen activities, ensuring smooth workflow and timely service.
• Supervise food preparation and presentation to maintain consistency and quality standards.
• Develop and update menus based on customer preferences, seasonal ingredients, and business goals.
• Create recipes, standardise preparation procedures, and introduce new dishes.
• Manage food costing, monitor portion control, and implement waste‑reduction initiatives.
• Control inventory levels, oversee procurement, and maintain accurate stock records.
• Train, mentor and schedule kitchen staff, fostering teamwork and discipline.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation regulations.
• Address customer feedback related to food and work with management to enhance dining experiences.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Culinary Arts, Food Production or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a hotel or restaurant.
• Strong knowledge of menu planning, food costing and kitchen operations.
• Proven ability to manage inventory, supervise staff and uphold food safety standards.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
