Head of Engineering & Data

About the role

Nuru Solutions is seeking a technical leader to define and execute the technology strategy that will power the company’s growth across Kenya, Malawi and Somalia. The Head of Engineering & Data will transform the core web platform into a suite of scalable, multi‑channel products, while guiding a growing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all development of technology, data, software and web‑based products, coordinating with external teams when needed.
• Define, plan and execute Nuru’s end‑to‑end technology vision and roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Design and implement cloud and database architecture, satellite index integration, ML models and climate data pipelines.
• Build cost‑efficient, secure and resilient systems for data ingestion, storage, analytics and distribution.
• Automate ML and data pipelines to reduce manual effort and improve unit economics.
• Oversee software development cycles from prototype to deployment, ensuring rapid iteration based on user feedback.
• Integrate farmer‑facing channels (SMS, WhatsApp, mobile) with backend analytics.
• Prioritize product development based on client needs and company strategy.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in technology teams, with a focus on scaling products.
• Hands‑on technical expertise to make architectural decisions.
• Ability to set direction, unblock teams and grow engineering talent.
• Experience translating client and farmer requirements into technical specifications.
