Head of Operational Support – Regional

About the role

The Regional Head of Operational Support will lead an integrated approach to operational management, ensuring the quality and timeliness of NRC’s response across East and Southern Africa. The role oversees support functions such as HR, finance, logistics, ICT and safety, and guarantees a conducive working environment for all teams in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure support functions within the regional team operate efficiently and foster collaboration.
• Hold country offices accountable for operational progress using reports, analyses and compliance data.
• Support country directors and heads of support with capacity building and problem‑solving on operational challenges.
• Provide advice and mentorship to operational support teams, promoting skills development.
• Participate in global planning and strategy discussions for support functions.
• Review finance, HR and logistics requirements for regional grants in collaboration with PCM and Grants Management.
• Streamline hosting arrangements for global pool members located in Nairobi and ensure a conducive working environment.
• Act on behalf of the Regional Director when required, including leading Crisis Management Teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of leadership/management experience in the humanitarian sector.
• Relevant higher education in business administration, management, finance or related field.
• Experience managing support functions such as finance, HR, logistics and, preferably, security and safety.
• Proven results in complex, volatile contexts and experience with organisational change processes.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of East and Southern Africa context is an asset.
• Ability to collaborate with remote teams, build relationships and act with integrity.
