Information Technology Assistant (Network & Security)

About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi is seeking an Information Technology Assistant to join the Infrastructure Management Section of the ICT Service. The incumbent will support day‑to‑day network administration, security, and technology research for UNON’s LAN, WAN and wireless environments.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in managing UNON’s LAN, wireless network and WAN, including planning and implementation of network projects.
• Review and optimise network configurations, backup procedures and security enforcement policies.
• Supervise network security personnel or contractors and assist with new data‑integration technologies.
• Design, implement and maintain data‑security projects with a focus on network monitoring and resource allocation.
• Create Python and Ansible scripts to automate repetitive network tasks and develop automation solutions.
• Maintain access‑control lists, update network documentation and analyse syslog data.
• Liaise with the UNON service desk to troubleshoot network issues and log service requests.
• Act as escalation point for technical staff, monitor problem resolution and recommend improvements.
