Junior Accountant – Full‑time, Nairobi

About the role

Our client, a growing SME in Kenya’s security sector, is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their finance team in Nairobi. This full‑time position offers the chance to work with the complete accounting cycle and develop expertise in Kenyan tax compliance and financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Record all sales, purchases, receipts and payments accurately in QuickBooks.
• Maintain an audit‑ready general ledger and organise source documents.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) under Kenyan IFRS.
• Generate management reports with variance and trend analysis.
• Reconcile bank accounts weekly/monthly and resolve discrepancies.
• Set up chart of accounts, classes/locations and recurring transactions.
• Automate bank feeds, troubleshoot mismatches and produce custom reports.
• File statutory returns (NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, VAT, PAYE, corporate tax) via the iTax portal.

Required profile

• 2+ years hands‑on accounting experience.
• CPA‑K (at least Section 3) or a diploma/degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong analytical abilities, high integrity and attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks.
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial formulas).
• Familiarity with the iTax portal, E‑tims and e‑filing systems.
