Landscape Ecology Scientist

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) seeks a senior Landscape Ecology Scientist to lead research that integrates trees into agricultural landscapes across the tropics. The role involves designing and overseeing high‑quality scientific studies, managing multi‑country projects, and contributing to the Centre’s mission of improving food security, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance to ensure research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and external partners to define and implement research activities in emerging interest areas.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate peer‑reviewed publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and donors.
• Identify and secure additional funding for relevant research topics.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and financial compliance.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., ecology, environmental science, natural resource management).
• Extensive experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research, preferably across multiple regions.
• Proven track record of developing and managing research budgets.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, proposal development, and securing donor funding.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) are an advantage.
• Experience working with diverse partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing‑country contexts.
