Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector

About the role

The Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector oversees all painting, coating, and surface‑preparation activities on marine vessels, equipment, and structures. You will guide a team of painters and helpers, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Marine Painters and Painter Helpers in abrasive blasting, sanding, priming, sealing, and painting.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily work assignments to meet service work orders.
• Inspect surface preparation and coating applications for compliance with specifications and manufacturer requirements.
• Document coating conditions, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Manage paint‑shop inventory, including paints, solvents, abrasives, tools, and equipment.
• Determine material and equipment needs for each project.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials according to SDS and environmental regulations.
• Develop and support Job Safety Analyses and enforce PPE usage.
• Train, mentor, and provide on‑the‑job instruction to improve technical proficiency.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff, project managers, and customers to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain painting equipment and blasting systems in safe, serviceable condition.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of marine or industrial surface‑preparation, abrasive blasting, painting, or protective‑coating experience.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of marine coating systems, paint‑application techniques, and surface‑preparation methods.
• Familiarity with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems and hazardous‑material handling.
