Manager, ESG

About the role

FSD Africa is seeking an experienced ESG Manager to lead the integration of environmental, social and governance considerations across its investment portfolio in Sub‑Saharan Africa. You will shape ESG strategy, guide due‑diligence processes and support impact‑driven financing decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ESG due diligence on complex investment transactions and present findings to the Investment Committee.
• Develop, implement and enhance ESG frameworks, policies and Environmental & Social Management Systems.
• Integrate gender considerations and apply recognised Gender Lens Investing approaches.
• Identify, assess and manage ESG risks across the investment portfolio and contribute to organisational risk management.
• Represent FSD Africa with investors, development partners, regulators and industry bodies on ESG matters.
• Prepare high‑quality investment papers, governance submissions and technical reports for senior decision‑making forums.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s with extensive experience) in Finance, Sustainable Finance, Environmental Management or related field.
• 6‑8 years of experience in finance, investment or development finance in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• At least three years in an ESG leadership role, including managing junior staff or external consultants.
• Demonstrated experience with ESG due diligence, risk assessment and portfolio monitoring.
