About the role
The Marine Shipboard Electrician will maintain, repair, and troubleshoot shipboard electrical systems, focusing on motor control centers, to ensure safe and efficient operation for a US Navy program on Diego Garcia.
Key responsibilities
- Perform electrical maintenance, repairs, and testing on shipboard motor control centers and related control systems.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose faults in motor control centers, control panels, wiring, switchboards, distribution and power generation systems.
- Align, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, switchboards, and distribution networks to meet operational demands.
- Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance while minimizing operational disruption.
- Read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and blueprints for installations, repairs, and adjustments.
- Replace faulty components, recalibrate systems, and modify electrical circuits as required.
- Inspect systems for safety and performance compliance, identifying and correcting hazards.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve issues and support preventative maintenance.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, work logs, and documentation in line with standards.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, occupational health standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required profile
- Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum two years of electrical maintenance and repair experience in marine or industrial environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of motor control center operations and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with low and medium voltage systems, electrical motors, switchboards, and controllers.
- Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints for shipboard systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Familiarity with safety regulations applicable to electrical and marine environments.
- Valid passport with at least one year of validity at time of hire.
