Mechanical Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will be based at the Mombasa terminal and will be responsible for maintaining and repairing blending, bagging and material‑handling equipment. The role aims to minimise downtime, ensure safe warehouse operations and support continuous loading and unloading processes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on blending hoppers, conveyor systems, bagging lines, palletisers, forklifts and wheel loaders.
• Carry out inspections, lubrication, bearing, belt and seal replacements, and general servicing to extend equipment life.
• Diagnose mechanical faults using vibration checks, visual and audible inspections and execute timely repairs.
• Repair and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gears, pumps and other rotating or static plant equipment.
• Conduct minor structural repairs, alignment of moving parts and basic welding/fabrication tasks as authorised.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, spare‑parts requisitions and service schedules in the maintenance management system.
• Prepare reports for the Warehouse Supervisor and HESQ Officer highlighting recurring issues and equipment wear.
• Collaborate with electrical technicians and equipment operators to resolve combined mechanical/electrical faults.
• Strictly follow Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures and the client’s safety rules during all work.
• Assist with installation, calibration, commissioning of new or repaired equipment and train junior staff on basic maintenance practices.

Required profile

• Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience maintaining industrial or warehouse machinery, preferably in a port or bulk‑commodity environment.
• Proven knowledge of forklift, conveyor and hopper mechanical systems.
• Ability to work safely following LOTO and environmental disposal procedures.
