MEL Manager – Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

About the role

The Tupande MEL Manager will lead all Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) functions for One Acre Fund’s Tupande program in Kenya. This senior position oversees current and future MEL projects, ensures data quality, and contributes to the organization’s impact strategy and impact plan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute MEL strategy, including impact evaluations, theory of change, study designs and data collection tools.
• Oversee complex workstreams, ensure adherence to MEL standards, and continuously improve quality‑assurance frameworks.
• Manage MEL team hiring, development, performance, and budgeting.
• Provide analytical support, own MEL data analysis, reporting and automation.
• Partner with senior leadership and donors, represent MEL in grant meetings, and support grant‑specific methodology.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience designing and implementing large‑scale evaluations in the developing world.
• Proven leadership experience managing a team.
• Willingness to live in East Africa for at least two years.
• Fluent English; Swahili advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency with statistical software such as Stata or R.
• Expertise in experimental and quasi‑experimental designs (propensity score matching, difference‑in‑differences, regression discontinuity).
