METOC Observer

About the role

Amentum is seeking a METOC Observer to support a dedicated U.S. Navy program located on Diego Garcia. The role involves continuous weather and ocean monitoring to ensure safe and effective operations in a remote, austere environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 METOC observer support to maintain uninterrupted operations at the assigned site.
• Operate and maintain weather monitoring and observation equipment in line with established protocols.
• Collect, document, and analyze meteorological and oceanographic data, including synoptic and special observations.
• Administer observation programs, ensuring data accuracy and quality standards are met.
• Produce timely weather‑related reports and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
• Perform data entry and processing using weather‑related computer systems.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues or escalate technical problems as needed.
• Ensure all observations and reports comply with U.S. Navy standards and implementation instructions.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in meteorology, oceanography, or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent with basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to operate weather observation equipment and manage synoptic/special observation programs.
• Corrected visual acuity of 20/20.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and oral.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain necessary facility credentials.
