Multimedia Officer

About the role

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking a Multimedia Officer for its Synergy Unit’s Policy Engagement and Communications Programme. The officer will lead the creation of visual, audio and digital content that translates complex research findings and policy messages into accessible, engaging products, supporting centre‑wide projects and enhancing public visibility.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualize and produce multimedia content including videos, documentaries, animations, podcasts, photography, infographics and interactive products.
• Translate research findings and policy messages into compelling visual and audio‑visual narratives.
• Develop storyboards, scripts, production plans and creative concepts in collaboration with researchers, policy specialists and communications colleagues.
• Conduct and record interviews with researchers, policymakers, program participants and partners.
• Capture high‑quality photographs, video footage and audio during field visits, conferences and stakeholder engagements.
• Manage the complete video and audio production process: concept development, scripting, filming, editing, post‑production, subtitling and distribution.
• Produce human‑interest stories and other multimedia products that demonstrate the relevance and impact of APHRC’s work.

Required profile

• Minimum 36 months (3 years) of experience in multimedia production or a related field.
• Mid‑level professional with proven ability to work in research or policy environments.
• Strong storytelling ability to simplify complex technical information.
• Experience collaborating with researchers, policymakers and communications teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.
