Nursing Officer – Dadaab, Kenya

About the role

The Kenya Red Cross Society is seeking a qualified Nursing Officer to join its health team in the Dadaab refugee camp. The role involves delivering high‑standard nursing care to both out‑patients and in‑patients while supporting doctors during rounds and supervising refugee staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, record vital signs and ensure proper documentation of all nursing procedures.
• Assist doctors during clinical rounds and communicate patient status, lab results, and treatment updates.
• Supervise and schedule refugee nursing staff, plan daily duties, and ensure adherence to clinical guidelines.
• Conduct health education sessions for patients and lead regular training for refugee staff on basic nursing care and charting.
• Maintain drug registers, monitor medication consumption, and manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Prepare weekly work schedules, compile monthly reports, and participate in camp health surveys and campaigns.
• Ensure the ward/clinic is kept clean and meet expected standards, and be on‑call for coverage as required.

Required profile

• At least two (2) years of nursing experience.
• Registered Nurse with a Diploma in Nursing from KMTC or a recognized nursing institute.
• Valid and current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Required skills

• Medication administration and drug register management.
• Ability to supervise staff and organize work schedules.
